About the Author
Reverend David Cobb has been studying the occult arts since 1986. Brought up as a devout Baptist he attended private Christian schools until he was 13. During that time he studied the ancient Mesopotamia River Valley civilizations, particularly the Sumerian and Babylonian cultures and religious practices. When he was 14 he was enrolled into public schools and studied mixed martial arts and began studying Zen Buddhism, ancient Greek philosophy, and the philosopher Rene Descartes. After graduating high school in 1986, Reverend Dave began studying Wicca and formed a small coven, which he disbanded a year later to pursue studies into ceremonial magick influenced by the Order of the Golden Dawn and the Rosicrucian’s, at this time he also was a member of a Pentecostal youth ministry. Longing for a more earthly and nature based system of magick, Reverend Dave returned to the Wiccan lifestyle and discovered shamanism along the way. In 2010, he found the Correllian Nativist Tradition of Wicca and Witch School International, or should we say, it found him. Currently, Reverend Dave is a licensed Wiccan Minister through Universal Life Church, a Reiki Master and Teacher, a First Degree Mentor for Witch School International, a Shamanic Practitioner, a Priest and the Spiritual Leader of the Circle of the Sacred Drum, a Witan Shrine of the Correllian Nativist Wiccan Tradition. Outside the Wiccan community, Reverend Dave works as a Certified Medical Assistant specializing in orthopaedics, and is a former United States Army National Guard Combat Medic, and Emergency Medical Technician. He currently lives in the Atlanta, Georgia area with his Ayami Lauren, and his spirit helpers; Fox, Bear, Master Roland, and Lady Ariel.

I had the privilege of being one of the first readers of this book. I found it to be very insightful and informative. This is a must have for anyone interested in healing and Shamanism.

I use this book everyday and not because it is required text in a course I am currently taking, but because the author has written a comprehensive and easy to follow book that allows me to incorporate my lessons into everyday use. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a understanding of shamanic practice and knowledge with concise information.

MPH Text Book

This book is a great text requirement for an MPH program. The only drawback I can think of, is that it is so darn heavy! An e-book or kindle version may not be as user friendly as one may think. Overall, good buy.

Amazing Book!

This was an incredibly good text book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading every bit of it. It is a compilation of topics as an overview of public health in American. The editors did a great job of choosing relevant topics that gave a student a good picture of Public Health and what makes up Public Heath. I highly recommend this book.

As mentioned by another person this book is really wordy for no real reason. I'm sure the same concepts could have been shared more effectively if plain language was used. Also it would have probably cut down the size of the book in half. I studied healthcare administration for my undergrad and now I am pursuing my MHA. Of all the books I've had to read in my healthcare career, this one by far has been the least interesting.

Lesions are not in order of frequency. Dicriminating features are not well documented. No systematic approch. And neary no pearl.

Pretty good.

I'm not a big fan of atlas like books in radiology, and thincked twice before I decided to purchase this book. But now I feel myself satisfied. Really good atlas in neuroradiology, not so much text, a lot of images and very good brief description of almost all neuroradiology practice conditions. The principle of "patterns" works well in daily practice, when you know what you see, but need fast and brief confirmation of your diagnosis version. Easy to search and too easy to get information you need. Nice effort from authors and McGraw Hill Company. Recommended for all general radiologists and last year residents.

Bought, leafed through it, then quickly returned it.

I thought by the description it would be an updated version of the Yock Neuro book that everyone likes, but hasn't been updated in a long time and can't be found anymore.

The descriptions are superficial, some are a waste of time, and even though I'm not that great in neuro I found a few outright errors.

With Yousem's book almost a complete failure in clarity, and Osborne's book woefully out of date, the Neuro void yawns before us all. I have high hopes for the Problem Solving in Neuro. please God, someday give me a good Neuro book.

Wonderful story, beautiful illustrations!

This is a wonderful children's book! You can choose to read it simply as a story about how having a loving heart is more important than the possession of any worldly "talent", and how a child finds unconditional love. Or you can explain to your child the book's deeper allegorical meaning, about God's love for all His children - a very welcome theme for parents who are looking for books with a strong, uplifting moral message! It is a touching and beautiful story. The illustrations are also fantastic - they are somehow reminiscent of Dutch golden age art. In response to the review about the book "lacking cultural diversity": I think this is simply due to the European setting of the paintings. I do not think the fact that the characters look a certain way will take away from the applicability of the message to any child. A very special book!!

WHAT IMPRESSES YOU?

JUST THE WAY YOU ARE is a wonderful story that any child will enjoy because we all want to impress people--it's human nature. It is about orphans finding out they are going to be adopted by the king. They are very excited and don't know what to do. The townspeople tell them they need to prepare fine gifts to "impress him when he arrives," so each one begins working fervently preparing his/her gift. One of the orphans can't think of a skill/gift she has and goes to each of the other orphans asking for help. Each one is abrupt, sending her off saying they are in a hurry and don't have time to help her. The girl feels she has nothing to give and is very sad.

The king comes dressed in common clothes and the orphan who has no gift greets him and feeds and grooms his donkey. She sees that this man is very tired and offers him a place to rest. When he wakes up he then goes out to find his orphans and later returns to the girl caring for his donkey, disappointed because everyone was too busy to see him.
The king tells the orphan girl she gave the best gift of all...
There is so much beauty in this book. A valuable story for children to hear, understand and apply to their lives. I give JUST THE WAY YOU ARE a very high recommendation.

Culturally Diverse or Not, a Wonderful Book

I had to respond after reading the post of another user. If they had read any of Max Lucado's books on the Wemmicks (you are special, you are mine and just the way you are) she would know that Max Lucado and the people working for Mr. Lucado do take cultural diversity under consideration.
This book is a phenomenal tale of the Love our King is waiting for us to show him. We do not have to be busy about all kinds of tasks to please him, but just give Him our heart! Yes perhaps there was not the proper percentage of races represented in this book, but the theme of the story is much more important than the illustrations.
Fantastic book, pictures or not. Read it to your children, and show them how much the King of the universe loves them as well.

Good choice!

I am a pediatric nurse, RN working in a busy outpatient department. I am also a Pediatric instructor at City College of San Francisco. I found this book to be a great and quick reference. The book is divided into sections by systems which I find to be helpful. The pictures are great and they have boxes that will highlight key points and pediatric pearls; which highlight key physical findings and techniques to improve pediatric exams. I like that the book is spiral bound. It makes it easy to read as it lies flat on a table or you could fold it back. I've used the photo's to show a new mother the anatomy of the skull of the newborn. She had questions about her baby's fontanels. I would highly recommend this book! DMG RN MSN IBCLC

The best pediatric physical exam textbook you will find

I am in my second year of a MSN-FNP program ready to begin my pediatric clinicals. After reading these reviews I knew I needed to purchase this book; I am very happy that I did. This is far and away the BEST book you will find on pediatric physical examinations out there. It is so thorough!

It is full of color photographs and drawings showing procedural steps and physical images in detail (very helpful so you may be more comfortable with a procedure or anomaly before you are approached with one in front of your preceptor).

Things like normal variations and abnormal findings are all given in tables so they are easy to find. Charting tips are offered for every section. I especially like how well the musculoskeletal and neurological sections are covered as these assessments have many specific examinations (each are offered, again with pictures). For example, the examination of the newborn hip is shown with pictures - observing for Ortolani's sign, Barlow's test, and symmetry (all shown with detailed pictures). Each body section is really covered well, it is difficult to pick out one or two. I suggest you click on the "look inside" to skip around the book for a few moments before you purchase it. I'm sure you will find it covers every area in detail. Just peek at the pictures in the skin section.

I just cannot get over how fantastic this book is. The size is perfect, you can carry it with you to clinicals (not too heavy and not too big) 6" x 9" and about 1" thick and spiral bound so it stays open to where you want it. It also has the fold over tab on the back cover so it has the built-in bookmark (a bonus!).

I highly recommend this to anyone who works with pediatric patients. Truly a fabulous find. I don't know why my school doesn't require this book. It is far better than the textbooks they do require.

This book provides a backgrond on the fast moving Carrier Ethernet technologies and implementations taking place in the world today. It does focus on North America, however the solutions defined in this book can be applied globally. For those interested in how other technologies provide Ethernet transport, service, and OAM, this book provides a great introduction and overview. Even more important, this book provides insights form industry experts on where a technology would be useful to deploy and where a technology would be ineffective - something most other Carrier Ethernet books do not discuss.

Delivering Carrier Ethernet is an excellent text on the subject. It is well structured, reviewing Ethernet fundamentals, and providing a templeted view of all the EoEverything technologies, without resorting to detailed protocol analysis. It has a good context of the evolution, and technologies. I've been in the carrier provider business for over 20 years, and this is a good as it gets. Multiple contribuors helps - nobody can be an expert across all these developing areas.

Can't wait until carrier Ethernet knocks on my door

I bought the book without really being interested in the topic of carrier Ethernet in the beginning. I just wanted to learn a little bit more about all the buzzwords that I hear (SONET, MPLS, ...). But as I started reading, I realized what a great potential this topic has.

After some introduction, for each technology there is a chapter that explains how it works and what the potential is. It is easy to skip chapters that are already known or not interesting. The description is just an overview. For a real deployment, of course more documentation would be needed. But that is not the focus of the book.

Those guys who are interested how Ethernet and VoIP will look like in a few years should take the time and check this book out.

A Necessity for a Pathfinder Player or GM.

As a player of D&D 3.5, I was somewhat hesitant in purchasing this book. My primary concerns were:

1) Is Pathfinder different enough from 3.5 to warrant switching systems? Are the differences enough to warrant this switch?
2) Is this going to teach me anything new? Will it give me something I didn't have before?

The answer to the first question is yes- while the differences may not seem overly apparent at first when switching from 3.5 to Pathfinder, the simplification of some rules (namely grappling) and the adjustment of the skill system make it well worth switching. I also prefer the leveling system; in 3.5 there were quite a few "dead levels". For me, the most exciting part about RPG gaming is developing your character through leveling up- dead levels take the fun out of this. The initial excitement of leveling up is there, but when you don't get any new abilities or your old abilities aren't improved in any way, it's somewhat anticlimactic. Pathfinder still suffers from this to some extent, but not as much as 3.5 did, and only for a few classes (specifically the Cleric and Wizard classes). Furthermore, the classes are differentiated in more ways that allow for more robust character development and customization. For example, the Sorcerer class is now much different from the Wizard class. In 3.5, the differences between the two were very subtle: the Sorcerer knew less spells but could cast more per day, where the Wizard had access to a wide variety of spells but could not cast as many. This basic aspect is still the same in Pathfinder, but the Sorcerer now also has a "Bloodline", which grants him or her different special abilities or spells- a unique feature that allows for the player to tweak their character more to their liking.

For the purposes of answering the second question, I will compare the Pathfinder Core Rulebook to the Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Players Handbook. To answer the question succinctly: yes. This book not only gives you any information you'll need to be an adventurer in the Pathfinder system, it includes information on how to run a game. A very experienced 3.5 DM may not learn anything new from this section of the book, but I will say that it is very nice to have both a Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide in one volume.
If you are already familiar with the Pathfinder system, you may be aware that you can actually access all of the information contained within the Core Rulebook online or in legally downloadable PDF format. Why, then, would anybody choose to buy this book when they could have it on their computer for free? The answer to that question is a more personally specific one, and I do not doubt that many gamers will choose the free option, but for me it was a number of reasons. First of all, I prefer physical books to electronic copies. It's easier to flip through, or flip back and forth between pages (which you may find yourself doing quite often to compare tables or classes). Secondly, the art included in the book is easily the best I've seen in any fantasy RPG text. While this isn't needed in order to enjoy the game or understand the rules, it is a nice edition that will make owning the book more pleasing than just flipping through the PDF. Personally, I use the PDF as well- in fact, sometimes instead of flipping between different pages of the book, I flip between the PDF and the book, keeping one page up on my laptop and another page open in the book.

For closing notes, I'll just wrap up by saying that the book is bound well and durable. I will definitely be purchasing more Paizo Pathfinder products in the future, and if you are either looking to get into tabletop RPGs, or seeking a new system for your group, I highly recommend this book.

Sewn binding!

I thought I'd post specifically on the quality of the book's construction, because it was a bit of a gamble when I bought it for myself due to lack of info:

The Pathfinder Core Rulebook as well as the Pathfinder Bestiary, hardcover editions, have sewn bindings. Why is this important? It means the books will still be intact after years of use. In short, if you're in to Pathfinder, the hardcover Pathfinder series seems to be a good investment in terms of longevity.

Regarding the book's contents:
In theory, any player's handbook contains enough information for both players and GM, simply because it lays out the core mechanics necessary for the players to interact with the game world - Fleshing out the world and interactions is up to the GM. In other words, you don't need a monster manual, a spell manual, a specific GM guide, a campaign setting, etc. - just the core handbook.

However, those accessory books are helpful in giving you starting points as you try to bring your world to life - pre-made creatures and spells that have been play-tested and balanced to work well within the rule system. If players or GM are uncomfortable with bending rules as a method for balancing gameplay or with creating new monsters/spells/items/etc., these accessory books become essential...and the game becomes very expensive, too.

The Pathfinder Core Rulebook offers plenty of info on race, class, items, skills, spells, and even devotes a decent chunk specifically to game-mastery. The only thing it really lacks is monsters and monster creation, so I would recommend purchasing the Pathfinder Bestiary I if you've purchased the Core Rulebook and decided you like the system. Bestiary I includes many, many, monsters as well as info on creating your own.

Basically, the Core Rulebook gives you the structure of the rule system and enough info to get the ball rolling, and then it guides you in using your own imagination to build on that system...if you're comfortable designing your own creatures without a specific guide to do so.

So...to come up with your own stuff, or to rely on accessory material? The cost of additional books aside, this is essentially a question of confidence and competence. If the players are willing to trust the GM to bend rules as necessary to balance customized gameplay AND the GM is competent enough to do it, there is no problem. But many players feel it is essential to rely on pre-made material that has been play-tested, and that's where the other books come in (along with endless arguments over little details). Thankfully, with Pathfinder you need only the Core Rulebook and Bestiary I for a basically fully-defined, 90% fudge-free campaign. If you're willing to fudge as necessary, all you need is the Core Rulebook.

If you're new to tabletop RPGs, expect some rule-bending or you'll get so bogged down that it will lose its fun. If you're a new GM, expect to HAVE to bend rules once in a while because no matter how many accessory books you purchase you're going to run into situations that aren't adequately covered by existing material.

The #1 thing to keep in mind: The Core Rulebook is a GUIDEbook. It's ok to modify the rules - nobody's going to get hurt. Hopefully.

A well done and well supported D&D rpg w/ new name.

I began playing D&D in 1981 w/ the Tom Moldvay magenta basic D&D box set. Those were the days. Up until college (aside from D&D) my game friends and I were playing Traveller, Gamma World, Star Frontiers, Recon, Marvel Superheros, GDW's Twilight 2000, Boot Hill,(all I can remember at the moment.

During and after college I became more busy and did not have as much time for gaming, or, I did it w/ mmorpg systems. Since online games are a different animal, I've since gotten back in touch w/ my old table top RPG friends and we looked into getting back into an RPG. Since most of our time was spent w/ D&D of years past, we had two options. Pathfinder and D&D 4.0.

I looked at the D&D 4.0 rules and discovered it was almost like playing on my World of Warcraft account. I can do that w/out buying a whole new set of rule books and my friends had no interest in WoW. Particularly when word came that D&D 5.0 was in the process of being created, dropping 4.0 on it's face (it deserved it).
That left D&D 3.75 (Pathfinder). I had the 3.0 D&D basic set and thought it decent when playing w/ my nephews but had never heard of Pathfinder. I gave the Pathfinder beginner box a try and was really impressed. Character creation was more involved than any previous rpg I had played but really enjoyed it. So did my group friends who I took through it.

That brings us to the Pathfinder Core Rulebook. My old game group is now playing RotRL and we are easing into the core rules as we play and really enjoying it. The CRB is very big as it is a combined DM guide and Players Handbook. Some of the most important rule changes from the Beginner Box are mentioned in the Paizo BB Transitions .pdf, free at Paizo. This means we can add more precise rules from the CRB as we play and adjust. From what I have read so far, the rules are clear and logical. Any questions are quickly addressed at the Paizo forums. Over all, well done and I've confidence it won't be dropped any time soon (@ WotC).

ETA: When transitioning to the Core Rulebook, because of the complexity of character creation, I purchased the Hero Lab program. I can't say enough about how easy this makes creating, printing, and updating characters. It does all the math and rules for you. Well worth checking out.
