This book is incredibly valuable to me. As I read the book, I felt that it was written just for me. The author keeps it real and, by fully understanding my life's challenges, with her compassion and insights she has made me feel: I can do this. Not only that, but I can choose the stretches I need to address my body s chronic neck pain in a time-efficient manner. The instructions are easy to follow, and I also feel Linda nudging me on in her gentle manner. This book is not like other stretching books that just address the physical aspect of stretching, and that is what attracted me. Linda creates a masterful tapestry by integrating stretching, breathing, and stress reduction with a thread of mindfulness. I love the emphasis on not having to be perfect. About the Author
Linda Minarik has been continuously certified in group fitness with the American Council on Exercise since 1993. She also holds teaching certifications in Gyrokinesis� and The MELT Method™. Her other specialties include Aerobic Dance and Water Aerobics. Linda currently teaches group fitness at New York's Health & Racquet Clubs and the Equitable Athletic and Swim Club. Linda pursues the unusual fitness combination of ballet and bodybuilding and is a long-time, serious student of classical dance. She has recently branched out into the study of rhythmic gymnastics. Linda lives in New York City.

Improve Your Stretching Techniques AND Overall Health

I have always believed that PROPER stretching is so important, for overall health and appearance.
But, as is the case with all types of activities, there IS a right way and a wrong way to stretch.

Stretching with Ease by Linda Minarik is an excellent reference guide for anyone who wants to improve their stretching techniques, no matter what their age or current fitness level.

Color photos throughout and detailed instructions, guide the reader on proper stretching techniques, and for a variety of needs including for the back, preparing for a variety of sports, neck, alleviating issues resulting from prolonged sitting (and don't we all do too much of that!), legs, knees, feet...and much much more.

Definitely worth checking out if you are in need of some professional and (for the most part) easy to follow suggestions for improving your own stretching techniques and regimes.

A beautifully structured book

A beautifully structured book, covering everything from "Why stretch?" to individual stretches to stretching sequences, all the way to developing your own stretching routines, with logical, direct language that seamlessly takes you from one part of the book to the next without confusing or overwhelming. References to other pages or parts of the book that complement the section being read are specific and extremely useful. As someone who has learned about physical movement in dance classes and is always interested in the "doing" of something but not always clear as to the "why," I am thrilled that Linda puts it all together, filling in the "gaps" of my knowledge with words that improve understanding, and ultimately inspire one to pursue the improvement of the physical self. The benefits of stretching are described in Part 1; benefit 2 contained such a beautifully simple and classic example that I knew by page 17 that this book was going to be invaluable to me.

A Fresh Path to Stretching

I am not a lover of exercise books: I find them too technical, the instructions too robotic, and the visual presentation too intimidating. But the book by Linda Minarik is very different – it is indeed a guide to your body: it makes you aware of parts you never knew you had, it makes you feel them, and it helps you to make them serve you better. Her refreshingly original tips in marginal inserts -- under the heading “Enlist your Mind” -- opened for me an entirely new way of getting in touch with my own body, and with muscles I did not know how to move. She also provides color-coded displays that are extremely helpful. Her presentation of stretching (including “bonus stretches”) humanizes the routines, which make one feel not only more limber, but somehow fuller as a person. Fabulous.

About the Author
Prisca Augustyn is an Associate Professor of German and Linguistics at Florida Atlantic University, where she has been in charge of German since 2002. Prisca teaches courses in German, linguistics, and semiotics. Her interest in how we form subjective models of the world through language informs not only her research in linguistics/semiotics, but finds expression in the development of teaching materials and methods for the classroom. She and her co-author Nikolaus Euba (University of California, Berkeley) recently finished the third edition of Stationen, a textbook for intermediate German.

Selected as the AATG 2013 Post Secondary Outstanding Educator, Nikolaus Euba holds an M.A. degree in "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit�t in Munich. Before coming to California, he taught and coordinated German courses at Miami University (Ohio) and the University of South Carolina. At Berkeley, he directs the German Language Program and mentors the Graduate Student Instructors who teach language courses. His research interests focus on integrating (literary) texts into foreign language teaching and learning, a topic on which he frequently develops workshops and gives presentations. He is a consultant to the College Board's AP program in German and to the National Evaluation Series (NES). After having directed and taught numerous summer study workshops in Heidelberg, Jena, and Berlin, he now coordinates the language program at FUBiS (Freie Universit�t Berlin in the Summer). He is a recipient of the Star Award for Excellent Service to the Student Community (1998), of the Mortar Board Excellence in Teaching Award (2001) and of UC Berkeley's Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentorship of GSIs (2007).

Intentions

I only bought a brand new book because I thought it would have the online access card with it, one that has never been used. I was disappointed when it didn't come with one at all. The back cover of the book directs you to the website where you have to buy it separate. Amazon should put it up somewhere that it doesn't come with online access before students drop all that money.

A fine textbook

It's a fine textbook. If you're looking at this page, it probably means you're required to buy it for your class anyway, so I doubt any review will have any impact on your decision. Grammar lessons are consice, and texts are interesting. As with most textbooks however, this book is way too expensive, especially considering it's not even a hardcover.

NO QUIA CARD!!!!!

The book is fine, and and it even came with a big orange sticker on the front that says "multivolume set do not separate" which i'm assuming to mean that at one point a quia card was intended to be paired with it, but there is no card at all. no code at all. rip off. i could've bought this from my local student store, gotten it new and the card included for what it's going to cost me to have to purchase the semester on quiz separately plus this book. I would've preferred to be scammed locally rather than support an outsourced business.

just horrible.

At dawn on September 22, 1711, more than 500 Tuscarora, Core, Neuse, Pamlico, Weetock, Machapunga, and Bear River Indian warriors swept down on the unsuspecting European settlers living along the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers of North Carolina. Over the following days, they destroyed hundreds of farms, killed at least 140 men, women, and children, and took about 40 captives. So began the Tuscarora War, North Carolina's bloodiest colonial war and surely one of its most brutal. In his gripping account, David La Vere examines the war through the lens of key players in the conflict, reveals the events that led to it, and traces its far-reaching consequences.

Well written and researched

Well written, very good research for a topic that I am sure was hard to find information about. Well balanced with both settlers and Indian viewpoints. Interesting to find out that the settlers did not always have the upper hand over the Indians, that the settlers also did not cooperate with each other very well.

North Carolina 1711, Indian and colonial history

This is a very detailed, informative account of little known episodes (to me) in colonial history. LaVere well establishes the importance of his topic. Even handed treatment showing atrocities on both sides including the practice of enslaving Indians alongside of Africans. Detailed Indian history includes how the Iroquois pushed pushed Souian speaking tribes west. One important result of the war was Indians learning not to trust whites in treaty negotiations.

There are interesting biographies and character analysis of many of the political and military principles white and red. LaVere is very adept at describing colonial politics. He does an excellent job of depicting involvement of Tuscarora and many minor tribes describes as well as possible political machinations of the Seneca.

The shorter Yamasee war indicated red white enmity was to be kept alive in perpetuity. Later many of the Tuscarora joined the Iroquois League with “little brother” status. Results of the war incurred enmity of the Iroquois League although they later sided with the British against the French.

The aftermath ends with a vague link to Wounded Knee in 1890. I would like to see this author use his extensive knowledge to write a book establishing the linkage.

The new "best" work on the subject

INC Press, under David Perry's leadership has revised a number of North Carolina historic subjects much for the better: Kars' _Breaking Loose....._ retold the War of the Regulation, McIlvenna's _A Very Mutinous People....._ revised our view of the Albemarle Quakers, and now La Vere has given us a new and richer view of the Tuscarora War. In each case the authors, for the fist time, incorporated common people in their telling.
In previous histories of their war the Tuscarora were essentially absent but for over-stated European memories of their slaughter. Last Vere has repaired that gap.
This book is must reading for any study of colonial NC.

Quite interesting

This book is really two books in one - The Space Merchants and The Merchants' War. The Merchants' War was written by Frederik Pohl and Cyril M. Kornbluth in 1952, and tells the story of a dystopian future, where ad-companies rule, and consumers are the cattle they drive. The Merchants' War is a sequel, written in 1984, some twenty-odd years after the death of Mr. Kornbluth, and it tells the story of the inevitable folly that this out of control world must produce.

Overall, I found these two stories to be quite interesting. Admittedly, the anti-capitalistic angle is played very heavily, but these books are designed as political statements, and not as pure science fiction. And, I must say that I found the story lines to be quite interesting, and the action gripping. So, if you like a good read, then I would highly recommend this book.

Ha ha ha!

This author's juvenile bumbling of the topic of lithium in general and hydrides in particular caused a distinct curving of my naso-labials. Ha ha ha! Of course, Mr. Amoretty (if that is his real name) did get the bit about thermal gravimetric analysis spot on, so props for that. All in all, more fun that weeding a pumpkin patch, but less fun than taking out the recycling after a big ole party.

Excellent Source for leaning how to configure Project System

I have read this book cover-to-cover. I recommend it to anyone who is seriously interested in learning how to configure and use the Project System (PS) component of SAP R/3. It is a concise, easy-to-read, and extremely instructive guide to using PS and I believe it should be a MUST-HAVE for anyone who works with the Project System. It employs an approach that I wish were modeled in other books about R/3 configuration.

While reading this book and with a smll bit of prior knowledge about PS, I was able to configure a project from scratch, including related configuration work in the IMG. It is the best source for an R/3 product that I have encountered and having taught SAP R/3 Configuration for 8 years and taken over 63 days of SAP Americas' R/3 training, I think this says a lot.

I wish there were books like this about such topics as variant configuration, SCM, SNC, and APO: it would have made it a lot easier for me to have learned about configuring these products.

Caveat: I do not know how this book would be for someone who has never worked with R/3 but I also do not think anyone interested in the Project System would be in that situation.

Very Dissapointed from a user perspective

As a user of PS i was very dissapointed in this book and I would not recommend it to anyone with limited knowledge or wanting to learn how to use PS from a user perspective.

The project builder which I believe is one of the main components of PS only receives a cursory look in the book.The building of a WBS structure showing hierarchies etc had no suitable examples and was only briefly touched on.

Nice Book

This is a nice handbook for somebody who wants fast answers to common questions. The best part is how the scenarios are covered, that let you understand more about PS. Also the configuration part is very interesting. This is not a handbook of how to use the basic of PS, this is about how to do advance configurations and how PS relate whit the other modules.
